Role of the Chair

• Convene meetings
• Organise agenda with secretary
• Chair meetings, keeping to time
• Follow agenda
• Sign minutes of previous meeting
• Keep order, keep the meeting running smoothly and to the agenda
• Ensure all members are allowed to state their opinion
• Ensure the constitution is adhered to
• Ensure that information required is available at meetings so committee can make informed decisions
• Remain impartial
• If decisions are to be made, get a ‘proposer’ and ‘seconder’, and vote on each proposal
• Have a casting vote in the event of a tie
• Ensure that any action to be taken that has been agreed at a meeting is carried out
• Coordinate
• Delegate
• Look after guest speakers, welcome them and introduce them
• Make self available and known to members (parents)
• Act as a spokesperson for group
• Signatory for grant applications
• Be a mediator
• Contact name for Ofsted, Pre School Learning Alliance and other organizations
• Support committee members including secretary and treasurer
• Sign cheques
• Give thanks, encouragement and be enthusiastic whenever possible
• Be a member of interview panel for new staff
• Be a member of a panel for staff appraisals
• Deal with legal matters
• Receive duplicate bank statements/check bank statements tally with accounts
